2023 Levant Chardonnay

The name "Levantine Hill" draws inspiration from the Levant, derived from the French word ‘rise,’ symbolizing the ancient lands along the Eastern Mediterranean where the sun rises. Our winemaker has delicately crafted these cool-climate, classic Yarra Valley varietals to be enjoyed now, while also possessing the potential for aging. Each Levant wine is a distinctive reflection of the vintage, showcasing the Yarra Valley as an internationally acclaimed cool-climate wine region.

This Chardonnay presents aromas of pine-lime splice, mango, lemon verbena, gardenia, and ginger, complemented by a subtle savoury undercurrent of tarragon and flint. The palate is rich and extended, with flavours of Key lime pie, lemon pith, macadamia meal, and flint, all balanced by a fine, integrated acidity. With its complexity and depth, this wine has the potential to age gracefully for 5+ years.

Wine Making

Grapes were whole-bunch pressed. Juice settled overnight, then coarsely racked to foudre and smaller format for barrel fermentation. The resultant wines were aged on settled lees with minimal stirring. 100% malolactic fermentation was undertaken on a number of barrels for enhanced richness and complexity.

Winemaker’s Notes

Aromas of orange blossom, frangipani flower, Meyer lemon, grapefruit pith, custard apple and lemon verbena with a subtle savoury undercurrent of lovage, flint and some struck match complexity. The palate is deep, long and flavourful with lemon posset and petrichor undertones washing over a refreshing base of integrated acidity. Aging potential: 5+ years.
