This wine represents the realisation of a 13-year long process of development, from inspiration to ideation to actualization of a dream, triggered by our winemaker working the 2006 vintage at the incomparable Domaine Jean-Louis Chave in the Hermitage appellation of France’s northern Rhône Valley. Unfurling aromas of ginger, makrut lime leaf, vanilla custard, flint and fennel seed introduce the rich and viscous palate which has its length and persistence aided by the inherent subliminal bitterness of the Marsanne skins and tactile phenolics.

GLEN GARVALD RANGE
Named after an historical surveyor’s geographic marker overlooking our vineyard, Glen Garvald wines represent our varietal and replanting response to climate change.
Each wine is a product of uncompromised craftsmanship, using fruit exclusively sourced from our Maroondah Highway vineyard. These wines are unbound by recent convention. Instead, using varietals hitherto uncommon to the region and a marriage of new and old techniques and exciting blends, Glen Garvald represents our very own historical marker for the future of modern winemaking in the Yarra Valley.
PB White Blend No.1
We are seeking to find and enhance vintage-specific synergy and harmony from complementary blends which results in a wine above and beyond the limited range of expression afforded to grape varieties when bottled in isolation. The idea of blending grape varieties to create a wine of amplified expression, structure, integration and balance; harnessing each components individual strengths to fashion a wine greater than the sum of its manifold components, has long held a fascination for us as wine producers.

PB White Blend No.2
We have blended complementary and compatible grape varieties to create a wine of amplified expression, structure, integration, and balance, harnessing each component’s individual strengths to fashion a wine greater than the sum of its manifold components. Taking its lead from the estimable white blends of Bordeaux, built around a base of Semillon, we seek to find a vintage-specific synergy from a harmonious blend, resulting in a wine expression beyond the limited range afforded to the singular grape varieties when bottled in isolation.

Pinot Noir
As an extension of our explorations into the possibilities of future ‘fits’ for our vineyard plantings in the face of the steadily evolving and warming climate, we are also delving into the world of clonal variation in Pinot Noir. As a first step in this process, we chose to feature the north facing D2V5 clone as a singular wine. This wine walks a tense line between savoury and sweet-fruited characters. It bears a brightness of colour with an intensity of varietal fruit. Aromas of black cherry and char, rose petals and baked clay abound.

Ornelias
Conceived as our homage to the pioneering game-changing ‘Super Tuscan’ Vino da Tavola blends of Firenze (specifically Marchesi Antinori’s ‘Solaia’ from their Tenuta Tignanello) and Bolgheri in western central Italy. This blend of intensely-fruited traditional Bordelaise grape varieties and the earthy asperity of Sangiovese takes strengths from each of its requisite components to make a wine of regal rusticity that treads a path a little less travelled.

Marsanne Late Harvest
This single-vineyard, single-block dessert wine represents an exploration into hybridising the dessert wine styles based on vins de paille (straw wines) from Hermitage and the Cote de Jura and Vendange Tardive (Late Harvest) styles from Alsace in France. Grapes were left to linger and intensify on the vine to achieve high sugar levels and honeyed complexity. The wine walks a measured fine line between tension, generosity, and medium-sweet weight. It featured aromas of ginger snap, cardamon, cumquat, crème anglaise, fresh quince, pink peppercorn, and beeswax.
