We are delighted to announce that our 2016 Estate red wines have officially been released. Handcrafted from single vineyard grapes grown on our Maroondah Highway Estate, the wines are a superb showcase of traditional wine making techniques and are true to the French single varietal wines of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. Our Winemaker Paul Bridgeman says that the warmer-than-average vintage has produced wines that are immediately drinkable while retaining our usual structure and composition to reward years of careful cellaring.
2016 Estate Syrah
Following in the footsteps of our award-winning 2015 vintage (Australian Red Trophy at the 2018 International Wine Challenge in London), the 2016 Estate Syrah features aromas of mulberry, five-spice, pepper, blood plum, fruit mince pies and raspberry coulis. Pairing perfectly with venison, lamb or duck, the flavourful, yet poised, elegant palate highlights the silken texture and vibrant plush fruit weight.
2016 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
With aromas of ripe blackberry, mulberry leaf, coffee, cocoa nibs, cumin and coriander seed, this wine is classically refined and medium-bodied. Best enjoyed with wagyu, braised beef or an aged gruyere, the wine quietly yet confidently pushes through the palate to a long and reverberant finish.
2016 Estate Pinot Noir
The composed palate wields flavours of red fruits, sarsaparilla, cocoa nib, aniseed, and celeriac while notes of chicory cut a run to the back palate. Subtly ingrained natural acidity and slow-building fruit weight means this wine is best enjoyed with quail, mushrooms or pork. The integrated oak and expansive spreading medium-chain tannins build in layers with each taste.
